Building Independence with Daily Living Skills Support

Helping You Learn, Practice, and Grow in Everyday Life

At Alaska Care, we support NDIS participants across Melbourne to develop essential daily living skills that promote confidence, self-reliance, and everyday functionality. Our goal is to help individuals live as independently as possible by building the practical abilities needed to manage day-to-day activities—both at home and in the community.

Our services are prsonalised to suit the goals outlined in each participant’s approved NDIS plan and are delivered by experienced support workers who understand the value of patient, person-centred assistance.

What Are Daily Living Skills?

Daily living skills refer to tasks and routines that support a person’s independence and quality of life. Under the NDIS, this may include capacity-building supports aimed at improving your ability to complete these tasks either independently or with reduced support.

Alaska Care provides structured learning opportunities and guided practice in a safe, supportive environment either one-on-one or in small groups—depending on your needs and preferences.

What We Help With

Depending on your plan and personal goals, our support may cover:

  • Travel and Transport Training
Learn how to safely use public transport, navigate travel routes, and gain confidence in moving around independently.
  • Meal Preparation Skills
Support in planning, preparing, and cooking meals; focused on nutrition, safety, and building confidence in the kitchen.
  • Personal Hygiene Routines
Guidance in developing consistent hygiene habits such as showering, grooming, oral care, and dressing.
  • Engaging in Recreational Activities
Participation in hobbies, leisure programs, or community groups to enhance social skills and personal enjoyment.
  • Laundry and Household Tasks
Practice skills such as sorting clothes, operating a washing machine, folding laundry, and light cleaning.
  • Managing Appointments and Daily Schedules
Support in learning how to manage your time, set reminders, and attend appointments on your own.

Our approach is designed to gradually reduce the need for support over time as your confidence and skills grow.
